Dakota Hotel Manchester Airport Photoshoot

Architectural photos of this stunning new Hotel at Manchester Airport

Dakota Hotel Manchester Airport

The new Dakota Hotel Manchester Airport is the latest in the folio of seven Dakota Hotels, located around the UK. Named after the famous Douglas DC-3 commercial aircraft, which was launched in the 1930’s, and revolutionised commercial travel by bringing stylish, sophisticated service to the aviation market. And everything about the Dakota Hotels is stylish, paying homage to this early days of commercial flight. I was privileged to spend a day at the new Dakota Hotel Manchester Airport a few days before it opened, producing a folio of images from my Dakota Hotel Hotel Manchester Airport photoshoot.

GMI Construction Group

GMI Construction Group were responsible for the airport’s build, and apparently finished four weeks early, which is rare these days in the world of construction - so awesome work guys! I was commissioned to photograph the hotel for the company, my brief being ‘shoot everything you can for us as the place will still be full of contractors finishing off the final details’. So I spent the day at the Dakota Manchester Airport Hotel photographing exteriors and interiors for my clients. And they weren’t wrong! The place was quietly busy with electricians, landscape gardeners, glazers, plus staff going about their business, in and out of training sessions. I had to time my shooting to perfection! But with some careful retouching here and there, I managed to take some great images during my Dakota Hotel Manchester Airport photoshoot.

Architectural Photographer Manchester

I really enjoy architectural photography. It has a discipline all of its own. Slow, methodical and deliberate, photoshoots like this can be quite therapeutic…and slightly stressful too with lots of people walking about. I used a Nikon D850 with my favourite Sigma Art 14-24mm lens (If you know, you know) for ultimate quality. With the camera firmly fixed on a tripod, some of my exposure times were 30 seconds+ so any moving people didn’t feature in my shots. Same for the bedrooms, allowing the daylight to blend with the gorgeous artificial lighting in the Suites. I think we nailed it, and I am very happy with the results from this Dakota Hotel Hotel Manchester Airport photoshoot.
